About 4pm today there was a bomb threat against the ANZ Bank. The ANZ happens to be situated in the same building as the one I work in. Our office first found out about what was going on through Twitter. Photos quickly became available. The bomb threat turned out to be a hoax. In the meantime I left the building and took a few photos of the cordon.
I find it interesting that Hitler is used in arguments to try and
colour the opposition as immoral. Hitchens and Dawkins tend to indicate that Hitler was a Catholic, and that a huge majority of the German people were also
Catholic. These are indeed facts. Christians claim that Hitler justified the extermination of the Jews by reference to Evolution and Natural Selection. I know
that there is evidence that this argument was used by the Nazi regime.
A little while ago I posted a message about a concern I had that the
claim that atheists are more intelligent than the religious was little
more than a kind of intellectual bigotry. It is the case that there is
a correlation, but as I explained this is not all together unexpected.
The basic reason is that people of higher intelligence tend to attend
universities. Universities tend to instill the scientific method, and
this tends to undermine faith.
The motto of Google is "Don't Be Evil". Its pretty easy to say something like this, but much harder to live up to. In the corporate world any action is moral if it benefits the share holders. So it is with not some inconsiderable astonishment that I find Google putting it's money where it's mouth is and actually acting morally by pulling out of China rather than continue to censor their search results.
Peace loving and thoughtful Atheists have been the victims of brutal censorship at the hands of a fundamentalist fanatical cult commonly described as "Christians". A few months ago Atheists raised over twenty thousand dollars in order to spread their message of hope and peace. However, the message has not been appreciated by the Cult of Christ who violently attacked a billboard that was critical of their irrationally dangerous beliefs.
